Huntington Beach, Calif. - - Gracey Van Der Mark today announced a coalition of firefighters supporting her campaign for California's 72nd Assembly District. The coalition includes the local associations of Orange County Professional Firefighters, the Newport Beach Firefighters Association, the Huntington Beach Firefighters Association and the statewide California Professional Firefighters and CAL Fire Local 2881 – representing nearly every major firefighter in California.
"I'm incredibly excited to stand with the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and communities," said Van Der Mark. "Our firefighters do so much than respond to fires. Whether they're responding to medical emergencies, confronting hazardous materials leaks like the one in Garden Grove earlier this year, or protecting our neighborhoods from devastating fires they are the ones we turn to.
"The devastating Palisades fire was a tragic reminder of what can happen when communities face catastrophic emergencies and lack the resources and preparation. We must learn from that disaster and address shortcomings in resources. Our firefighters deserve every resource necessary to protect lives and property, and our communities deserve to know we are prepared for the next emergency. Our firefighters stand on the front lines for us every single day, and I will stand with them in Sacramento."
